In 1993, TurnKey Plus was born from its parent company, Torrey Pines Research (TPR). Since 1986, TPR is a world leading technical consulting and product development company specializing in the design and development of complex digital printing systems and other similar electro-mechanical devices. TPR is headquartered in Carlsbad, CA (suburb of San Diego) and has a companion design center in Rochester, NY. TPR technologists and engineers include mechanical, electrical, software, embedded firmware, process physics, and material scientists - essentially all the technical disciplines needed to design and develop, from "clean sheet", a digital printing system, such as electrophotographic printers (laser printer), inkjet printers, thermal printers, and other less know technologies. In the early 90's, TPR had a number of product development projects underway in which the customer desired for TPR to provide a complete turnkey design and manufacturing service. Since manufacturing is much different from engineering, TPR established a new division for manufacturing and manufacturing engineering, called TurnKey Plus.
During most of the 1990's, TurnKey Plus manufactured products primarily designed and developed by its parent, Torrey Pines Research, but in numerous instances, TurnKey Plus manufactured systems designed by others. Its principle manufacturing site was in Carlsbad, CA, with some light duty assembly in Rochester, NY. Today, TurnKey Plus has a manufacturing facility in Shenzhen, China, in the newly developed economic zone outside of Hong Kong. With this operation, TurnKey Plus now has the ability to manufacture both domestically or in china, depending on the needs and requirements of the customer.
